Vegetarians and Class
There is research and media coverage suggesting that vegetarians and vegans are from the educated, salaried, trendy middle classes. That they are pompous and like to look down on meat-eaters and believe that they are correct in all aspects of their lifestyle.
Research has shown that intelligent children are most likely to become vegetarian adults and females are more likely to choose vegetarianism than males and the middle classes are much more likely to become vegetarian or vegan than working class people on lower incomes.
However, modern society has given more people, more choices, certainly in terms of being a vegetarian or vegan. It is true to say that a vegan lifestyle does require more research and a more total lifestyle change, because of the complete absence of any animal products including clothing, footwear, pet foods, make-ups, etc. Basically everything in a vegan's lifestyle has to be animal free.
The good news is that anybody can become a vegetarian instantly, the choice to be a vegetarian, once made is very easy to live with. Hopefully this site will show any person of any age and income how to become a vegetarian today.
"We've always known that vegetarianism is an intelligent, compassionate, choice benefiting animals, people and the environment." Liz O'Neill, vegetarian society.
"Veggies are everywhere, transcending all age groups, religions, races, genders and class, and for every individual who chooses to opt out of the meat chain it's a personal journey which can also improve a person's relationship with the world around them."
This statement makes it clear that vegetarianism is purely a personal choice. It does not matter if you are on a low income, if you are particularly busy in your work, if you have a busy family life or if you are finding life stressful to manage day by day as most people are. You can become a vegetarian today, you can make this personal change in your lifestyle immediately, it will not cost you anymore money, it will improve your health, you will be saving animals lives instead of being part of their slaughter, you will be helping the environment, you will be helping yourself to develop your spirituality. Of course becoming a vegan would be the ultimate, most important choice to support and protect animals and the environment but vegetarianism is simple, a very good way to live and a very easy choice to make, with so many supermarkets selling vegetarian foods, whether convenience meals or the ingredients to make your own tasty dishes. Basically make the personal choice to stop eating dead animals and improve your diet and animal's lives by not eating dairy produce or eggs, although strictly speaking, this is optional for vegetarians, but soya milk is a great nutritious alternative to dairy milk and vegan egg replacer is a great alternative for cooking with eggs.
