Saving The Planet
Sir Paul McCartney has teamed up with nobel-prize winning scientist Rajendra Pachauri, the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. McCartney and Pachauri, who are both vegetarians are trying to educate the world's population in vegetarianism.
There is one main factor regarding eating meat and environmental damage that needs addressing, this is the creation of greenhouse gases like methane which are produced from livestock and are damaging the o-zone layer and therefore causing in part global warming.

These gases in small amounts are not so damaging to the environment, however, in todays society millions of "extra" animals are bred just to be eaten for meat. This is a major problem because all the extra gases that are produced from these animals will cause damage to the o-zone layer.
Vegetarians belive we are not designed to eat meat, and because of the large number of humans who consume meat, which in turn is damaging our world.
We have to start to cut back on the number of animals that are being killed for meat, to become a vegetarian is an enormous help and will save our planet.
The united nations and others have pointed out further that the animal agricultual business emits more greenhouse gases than the entire transport sector.
Animal farms including fur farms are devastating the planet, also tanneries where leather is treated, use harsh chemicals and produce toxins that effect the soil and waters, which effects people's health and the whole environment. A civil action is a book by Jonathon Harr on this subject.
Cotton
Conventially grown cotton uses the most heavy application of pesticides of any crop worldwide. It is therefore recommended that people wear hemp, bamboo and organic cotton to reduce the harmful effects that conventional cotton does to the world.
Of the 20 million tons of plant protein given to raise cows only 2 million tons of protein are used. That means 18 tons of plant protein are wasted!
The 20 million tons of plant protein could have reduced 90% of the world's yearly protein deficit for humans.
>Being a vegetarian would alleviate human starvation and in return there would be an increase in the numbers of wild animals surviving.
>By choosing the vegetarian or vegan alternative, the land used originally for farm animals would feed more people from plant protein.
>Plants yield 10 times more protein per acre than meat.
Length of time world's petroleum reserves would last if all human beings ate a meat centered diet: 13 years
Length of time world's petroleum reserves would last if all human beings ate a vegetarian diet: 260 years
